Tyson drew the rear again with six karts in the class and Tyson being the youngest we new it was going to be a challenge. We would finish fifth in the first heat and fourth in the second heat and take home a fifth in the feature.

The crew-chief made the wrong call by putting a new set of tires on the kart and this made a really loose condition. Tyson has been learning the different feel for the kart and track conditions along with the crew trying to figure out the gearing and setup.

May 27
OTTUMWA, Iowa - On Saturday May 23rd Tyson Paris racing made his third appearance at the Shimek Speedway in Farmington on the way to the track mother-nature tried to spoil the evening. We hit rain going down the road at the Keosauqua turn off and it rained till we got to the track.

When we pulled into the track they had received over a ¼” of rain making things really wet. Ben Smith who operates the track made the call to wait 2 hours and see if they could work the track in. The track was packed in and hot laps started at 7:15 and the night was a success.

Tyson drew number 41 in check in giving him a third row outside starting spot in heat number one. He held his own and passed one to finish fifth. The second heat Tyson started second row inside and made his way to third and later passed for second spot and took the runner up spot in heat two. The feature Tyson started outside of row two and raced his way to fifth and was making a move for fourth when lap traffic would make for four wide racing and Tyson spun his machine after contact in turns three and four ending up in a sixth place finish out of eight good rookies.

This would setup a fourth row inside starting spot with eight rookie karts checked in for competition. Tyson was learning the feel for the new kart and the dry slick track he spun out twice but still managed to pass two karts and finished sixth in the first heat. The second heat was a very good run Tyson keep the kart straight and in the groove and finished third in the second heat. This would setup a inside third row start and Tyson would take home a sixth place finish. We were very happy with his learning experience and the feel for the new ride and first dry slick night.

April 25
OTTUMWA, IOWA - On Saturday April 25, 2009 the young driver Tyson Paris got the word that practice at the Show-Me-Speedway had cancelled there practice due to too much rain. So Tyson was all pumped up and ready to go racing or practice but didn’t know what the day would bring with the forecast of rain and even thunderstorms. The phone call was made to the Shimek Speedway in Farmington to see if the races was still on and yes it was about the only go-kart track still running. Tyson and mom hooked-up to the trailer and headed to the track.

They experienced rain on the way but Farmington hadn’t seen the shower and they made it to the track safely. They unloaded and got things ready to go but needed some help from the Midwest Kart Works team and Dustin Westerkamp who helped get the new car ready by adding weight and changing the driver sprocket for the night’s event.

Tyson would take hot laps and learn the feel for the new ride and did a great job. The first and second heat Tyson elected to start at the rear of both heats and learned the feel for passing he finished third in the first heat and third in the second heat.

He started the main from the back and he finished in the fourth spot for his first event of 2009.

He got his first trophy of the year and it being a bright red trophy and he was very happy and enjoyed the new kart he’s riding.

The team packed up and headed back for Ottumwa with lighting to the west of the track they new it might be along drive home. They made the stop at Casey’s General store in Farmington at around 8:45PM and got the tank filled and some dinner and headed for home taking almost two hours running thru very heavy rain.

They arrived safely and now look at next weekends outing being the Kart show at the Lee County Speedway in Donnellson on Friday night and the first race at the Show-Me-Speedway in Downing, Missouri on Saturday night.
